The Players
David
Jordan- Bass, Vocals
Dave founded the group in late 1995 with the musical intention of
mixing the heavy rhythmic groove of groups like The Meters and Sly
& the Family Stone, with the group improvisation of bands such
as the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. His first band, Hoppergrass,
made an immediate impact on the Baton Rouge music scene in the early/mid
'90's by sharing the bill with such notables as Widespread Panic,
George Porter, Merl Saunders, The Aquarium Rescue Unit and The Samples,
to name a few. As the primary songwriter in the group, Dave’s influences
are heard in his writing- from the organic instrumental grooves of
the Meters, to the sharp wit and social commentary of Bob Dylan and
the rhythmic wordplay of Dr. John. He freely mixes elements of New
Orleans style funk, rhythm and blues and second line, southern rock,
and folk to create a very New Orleans version of roots rock. He is
also a contributing writer for An Honest Tune Magazine- The Southern
Journal of Jam
Aron
Lambert- Drums, Vocals
Hailing
from New Orleans' French Quarter, Aron's musical pedigree runs deep.
His uncle, Alan Jaffe, founded the world famous Preservation Hall.
As a child, he was taught by N.O.'s jazz patriarch bassist Walter
Payton (father of Grammy award winning trumpeter Nicholas Payton).
He later casually studied with the Neville Brothers funkmaster "Mean"
Willie Green, as well as esteemed jazz drummer Shannon Powell. In
1993, Aron relocated to Nashville to hone his chops. Besides being
a session man in various R&B, Funk, Rock and modern Jazz groups,
Aron founded a local weekly jazz jam (it still runs today) where he
frequently collaborated with saxophonist Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck &
the Flecktones). While in Nashville, he also jammed with such notables
as Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and Daryl Dybka (Frank Zappa). He
returned to New Orleans in 1998 to "get back to the funk"
that he grew up on and, although he had known Dave since the early
‘90’s, they never performed together until Aron joined the band in
August 1999. He has performed with such notables as the New Orleans
Klezmer All-Stars, The Olympia Brass Band, and The Preservation Hall
Jazz Band.
Sam
Hotchkiss- Lead & Rhythm Guitars, Vocals
As
co-founder of the enormously popular, early/mid ‘90’s New Orleans
Latin/funk band, Smilin’ Myron, Sam has been a mainstay on the New
Orleans scene for over a decade. In an ironic twist, both Dave and
Aron’s former groups opened for Sam in the early ‘90’s. An enormously
accomplished guitarist, he has performed with a veritable Who’s Who
of the New Orleans and national funk and jam scene. Horn players from
Harry Connick, Dr. John and Walter “Wolfman” Washington’s bands, perform and
compose with Sam on a regular basis. Smilin’ Myron performed on the
2nd H.O.R.D.E. Festival- the seedling fest of the now overwhelmingly
popular jamband movement- with the likes of Blues Traveler, Widespread
Panic, Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Other acts
Smilin’ Myron worked with included the funky Meters, Maceo Parker,
Gatemouth Brown and many more. As bandleader for Smilin’ Myron, Sam
also introduced two now-common practices to the New Orleans club scene:
multi band events at the Contemporary Arts Center and the now legendary,
Sunrise shows during Jazz Fest. Sam is also an accomplished banjo
player and has toured Europe with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Joe
Krown- Organ, Keyboards
The
most recent addition to the band, Joe joins the band with quite a
musical resume. An A-list New Orleans keyboard player, he is a winner
and two- time nominee for Blues (2001) at Gambit Magazine’s Big Easy
Awards. Since 1992, he has held down the keyboard spot with the legendary
Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. With “Gatemouth” he has been featured
on 5 chart topping albums and toured all 50 states, 35 countries and
6 continents. An all around player, Joe has held down the traditional
piano night at New Orleans’ legendary Maple Leaf Bar- a gig once held
by piano greats Professor Longhair and James Booker. He’s also recorded
two solo traditional piano albums. Since 1998, Joe has fronted the
Joe Krown Organ Combo, a band dedicated to the B-3 organ that explores
classic organ combo music in the tradition of Booker T., Jimmy Smith,
Jimmy McGriff and others. He has put out two albums with the organ
combo. If that’s not enough, Joe has also shared the stage with countless
musicians, most notably Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Vassar Clements.
As a session player, he has also recorded with the likes of Marva
Wright, Bobby Charles and many more.
